NECO Warns Schools Against Proxy Registrations in Exams

The National Examinations Council (NECO) has issued a firm warning to school owners and stakeholders, urging them to stop the practice of registering candidates for its examinations through proxy.



This fraudulent act has led to identity theft and the presentation of fake results, which NECO is determined to combat.

Measures to Combat Examination Malpractice

NECO has introduced several initiatives aimed at preventing all forms of examination malpractice, especially impersonation.

These include:Biometric Data Capturing Devices to ensure the correct candidate sits for the exam.
The use of customized answer booklets, unique to each candidate.
Embossing photographs and dates of birth on original certificates to prevent forgery.


Introduction of NECO e-Verify

In addition to these security measures, NECO launched the NECO e-Verify platform, an online tool designed to confirm and verify the authenticity of NECO results.

This platform ensures that any certificate issued by NECO can be checked for legitimacy. Any certificate that cannot be verified through this platform should be regarded as fake.
Call for Genuine Registrations

The Council urges state ministries of education and school owners to only use the personal details of genuine candidates when registering them for any NECO-conducted examinations.

NECO’s robust policy against malpractice ensures that those found guilty of impersonation during the recently concluded 2024 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) Internal will have their results withheld.

These efforts underline NECO’s commitment to maintaining the integrity of its examinations and curbing fraudulent practices across the board.
