Requirements for the University Librarian Position

The ideal candidate must hold a Ph.D. in Library Science.

Evidence of scholarly work in Library and Information Science through reputable journals and books is essential.

Applicants should have a minimum of twelve years of experience working in a university library.

The candidate must have spent at least five years as a Deputy Librarian or in a similar role within the university system.

Membership in the Librarian Registration Council of Nigeria (LRCN) and the Nigerian Library Association (NLA) is also required.

Candidates must be ICT compliant and not older than sixty years upon assuming the role.


Other Essential Qualifications

The applicant should have a strong record of ongoing scholarly contributions, with publications both in Nigeria and internationally.

The appointment will last for a single term of five years.

Strong managerial skills are necessary for success in this position.

Understanding modern methods of deploying information technologies in managing library collections is crucial.
Responsibilities of the University Librarian

The University Librarian is a Principal Officer and head of the library at FUOTUOKE.

This role involves managing the University Library, its branches, and extensions.

The Librarian will oversee the library’s services, ensuring they meet the needs of the university community.

The Librarian will work directly under the supervision of the Vice-Chancellor.
Salary and Service Conditions

The salary and conditions for the University Librarian will match those set for federal universities by the Federal Government of Nigeria.
