The University of Maiduguri (UNIMAID) has announced the appointment of a new Vice-Chancellor.
The Governing Council of UNIMAID made this decision at a special meeting held on Wednesday, 18th September 2024.
Professor Mohammed Laminu Mele has been appointed as the new Vice-Chancellor of the university.
This appointment followed the recommendation of the Joint Council and Senate Selection Board.
Four applicants were interviewed for the role, and Professor Mele was selected based on his outstanding qualifications.

Professor Mohammed Laminu Mele’s Background
Professor Mele is a distinguished scholar in English Language and Linguistics.
He has more than two decades of experience in teaching, research, and community service at UNIMAID.
Before his appointment as Vice-Chancellor, he served as the Acting Vice-Chancellor of the university.
In addition, he has held several key positions, including the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Central Administration).
