The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has released the results for the 2024 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE). Overview of the 2024 WASSCE Examination

The 2024 WASSCE took place over seven weeks and six days, from April 30 to June 24. A total of 1,814,736 candidates registered from 25,126 secondary schools across Nigeria, with 1,805,216 candidates sitting for the examination. Out of these, 1,685,889 candidates (93.39 percent) had all their papers processed and released, while 119,327 candidates (6.61 percent) had some subjects still being processed.

Examination Malpractice and Results Withheld

Amos Josiah Dangut, Head of WAEC Nigeria, reported that the results of 215,267 candidates (11.92 percent) are being withheld due to examination malpractice. This marks a decrease from the 16.29 percent recorded in the 2023 WASSCE.
Performance Analysis: WAEC Results Statistics

The performance statistics indicate that 1,332,089 candidates (73.79 percent) achieved credit and above in at least five subjects, regardless of English and/or Mathematics. A total of 1,301,941 candidates (72.12 percent) secured credit and above in at least five subjects, including English Language and Mathematics. This reflects a 7.69 percent decrease from the 79.81 percent pass rate recorded in 2023.
Detailed Analysis of Candidates’ Performance

Out of the 1,805,216 candidates who took the examination, 1,332,089 candidates (73.79 percent) obtained credit and above in a minimum of five subjects. This includes or excludes English Language and Mathematics, highlighting the broad success of candidates across different subjects.
